    • Quieter Experience: Less crowded, providing a more remote and serene trek.
    • Gentle Gradient: Easier initial ascent, making it a good option for beginners.
    • Wildlife: Higher chances of encountering wildlife in the initial stages.
    • Weather: The drier climate reduces the likelihood of rain, especially during the rainy season.

    Cons of the Rongai Route:

    • Less Dramatic Scenery: Lacks some of the lush rainforest and dramatic landscapes of other routes.
    • Longer Descent: Ends at Marangu Gate, requiring a longer descent on the southern side.
    • Acclimatization Challenges: Less time for gradual acclimatization compared to routes like Machame or Lemosho.
    • Limited Rescue Access: The remoteness may complicate rescue efforts in emergencies.
    Machame

    Pros of the Machame Route:

    • Scenic Beauty: Known as the "Whiskey Route," it offers diverse and stunning landscapes, including rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert.
    • Good Acclimatization: Features a "climb high, sleep low" profile, improving acclimatization chances.
    • Popular Choice: Well-trodden with excellent guides and infrastructure, making it suitable for most trekkers.
    • Challenging Adventure: A rewarding climb for those seeking a more demanding trek compared to easier routes.

    Cons of the Machame Route:

    • Crowded: As one of the most popular routes, it can get busy, especially during peak seasons.
    • Physically Demanding: Steeper and more challenging than other routes, requiring good fitness levels.
    • Longer Duration: Typically takes 6-7 days, making it longer and potentially more expensive.
    Lemosho

    Pros of the Lemosho Route:

    • Scenic Diversity: Offers stunning and varied landscapes, including rainforest, heath, and alpine desert.
    • Low Crowds: Starts on the remote western side, providing a quieter and more private experience in the early stages.
    • Excellent Acclimatization: Features a gradual ascent with a "climb high, sleep low" approach, increasing summit success rates.
    • Extended Duration: Longer itinerary (7-8 days) provides more time for acclimatization and enjoyment.

    Cons of the Lemosho Route:

    • Higher Cost: Longer duration and remote starting point make it one of the pricier routes.
    • Challenging Trek: Physically demanding, requiring good fitness and preparation.
    • Longer Approach: Initial stages are more remote, potentially less exciting for those eager to reach higher altitudes quickly.
    Other routes

    Marangu Route:

    • Pros:
      • Hut accommodations, offering shelter and more comfort than tents.
      • Shorter duration (5-6 days), making it less expensive.
      • Straightforward trail, suitable for less experienced trekkers.
    • Cons:
      • Lower summit success rate due to a faster ascent.
      • Crowded, especially during peak seasons.
      • Lacks scenic diversity compared to other routes.

    Northern Circuit Route:

    • Pros:
      • Longest route (9-10 days), providing excellent acclimatization and the highest success rate.
      • Remote and less crowded, with unique views of Kilimanjaro's northern slopes.
      • Stunning and varied landscapes.
    • Cons:
      • More expensive due to its length and remoteness.
      • Requires significant time commitment.

    Shira Route:

    • Pros:
      • Begins on the western side, offering beautiful views and a remote start.
      • Shares much of the scenic diversity of the Lemosho Route.
    • Cons:
      • Starts at a higher altitude, increasing the risk of altitude sickness early on.
      • Similar to Lemosho but less preferred due to acclimatization challenges.

    Umbwe Route:

    • Pros:
      • Direct and steep, offering a shorter and more challenging climb for adventurous trekkers.
      • Less crowded, providing a more secluded experience.
    • Cons:
      • Poor acclimatization profile due to its steep ascent.
      • Low success rate, recommended only for experienced climbers.

There is no perfect route to take to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Each route offers unique experiences, so the best choice depends on preferences, fitness, and time availability.

When is the best time to go? One of our favorite times is December, January and February. The little rains are mostly over by mid-December until the heavy rains begin in March. The crowds are not there-it is "slow" season. The busy season is the Northern Hemisphere summer. December, January and February are Tanzania's summer, so the top of Kili is warmest then.

What Our Guests Say

  • Very nice trip with Ari, on recommandation from a friend we went with him for a safari after our climb to Uhuru peak, and it was a pleasure, very nice, very professional, and also very friendly. A safari very close to the animals, where he took time to explain all about everything, and provided all the confort, picking us at the hotel, and even bringing us to the airport in the middle of the night.

    Adrien, France
  • My two friends and I had an incredible time on the safari with our guide ari and our driver (“lion”)!! We would highly recommend this safari. We did a three day safari and three parks and an incredible hotel and food was all included! Our guides were very knowledgeable and helpful and allowed us to have so much fun and adventure along the way. We were able see all the animals we wanted to (rhino!) and it was a wonderful experience out in the parks. Such an incredible and magical place, full of life and wonder. The resort hotel we stayed at was also wonderful and relaxing. Thank you Ari and “Lion”!

    Keisha

  • We enjoyed amazing safari's in Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti National Park, thanks to Kilimanjaro Bliss & Ari. Guide & driver Ari was very flexible and accommodating for our family (5people). Every day again, we were amazed by the beauty of the country, the hospitality of the people and the guidance of our guide & driver.

  • Ari of Kilimanjaro Bliss was an amazing host. We had signed up to do our climb to the top of Kilimanjaro with Kilimanjaro Bliss and got so much more than we expected...Ari and his crew took great care of us on the seven days that we took to get to the top and back down again. The food was incredibly delicious and the crew were awesome. It was an amazing adventure and we made it back a day early, so we decided to do a safari to Tarangire National Park. We ended our day with a visit to a Masai village. A truly incredible experience with exceptional service by Ari.

    Gabe, Minnesota, USA
  • The most incredible adventure, with the most amazing people! Two women, aged 55 and 59, apprehensive of the gruelling journey, but hoping for bragging rights of reaching the top; we anticipated sacrificing all comfort to get there. Instead, we were blown away with the great lengths the team went through to, not only make us comfortable, but make us feel like royalty. Meals were better than I have had in 5-star restaurants. Although summit day was tough, the journey getting there will be what I remember best. I miss the team already!
